The Maltese Cross

Maltese Cross "Symbol of Honor, Courage, and Dedication" The eight-point Maltese Cross is the international symbol of the fire service's willingness to make great sacrifices in order to protect others from the ravages of fire.The cross, which is considered sacred, represents the principles of charity, loyalty, chivalry, gallantry, generosity to friend and foe, protection of the weak and dexterity in service. Firefighters wear the Maltese Cross to symbolize their willingness to risk their lives to save others.

ENGINE COMMITTEE UPDATE

The replacement of our 1986 E-One Engine continues with steady progress. Members of the committee went to Tyler Fire Equipment in Elmira to do an inspection of the completed Engine. Delivery should be in a few days.

FIRE EXPO 08 SATURDAY 9/6

A reminder that the Broome County Fire Expo will be this Saturday, September 6, 10 am to 4 pm at Port Crane Fire station, Route 369, Port Crane (exit 3 off Route I-88). The event will be held rain or shine!FREE ADMISSION AND DOOR PRIZES INCLUDING SIX $50 GAS CARDS WILL BE GIVEN AWAY! T-shirts, fire and safety equipment, many other items will be on sale. Displays include: Hybrid bus (similar to the ones Broome Transit has ordered) courtesy BAE and representative to answer questions for emergency responders NYSEG "Live Line" Demo, and safety information on Electric and Gas National Weather Service Broome County Water Rescue/Dive Team New York State Department of Transportation with information on Interstate Detour Routes and Quick Clearance Theory New York State Forest Rangers Shafer Bus will display a tour bus and discuss hazards associated with the buses. Southern Tier Chapter American Red Cross New York State Police "Convincer" Broome County Haz Mat Team Guthrie Air helicopter (weather permitting) Many others Vendors include: Access Health Systems, Fire-End Croker, ESIP Insurance, Grey Goose Graphics, Tyler Fire Equipment, Custom Emergency Vehicles, Jefferson Fire Equipment, Alpha Embroidery, Churchville Fire Equipment, Signal 1 Fire Equipment, Hubbinette-Cowell/VFIS insurance, Safair, Air Cleaning Systems, Federal Safety Equipment, 1st Response Apparel, Guard Line Equipment and others....
